TÜV SÜD America can assist your organization
in meeting the requirements
of the new ATEX directive for equipment, safety / control and regulation devices, components, and protective systems, intended
for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
These requirements, which are found within two related European directives: ATEX 94/9/EC and 1999/92/EC, became mandatory on July 1, 2003.The first regulates equipment manufacturers, and the second regulates workplace owners and /or users of the above mentioned equipment. Note, as of July 1, 2003, ATEX Directive 949EC replaces current directives 76/117/EEC, 79/196/EEC and 82/130/EEC.
Equipment manufacturers placing equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres must demonstrate that their equipment conforms to Directive 94/9/EC and must bear the CE Marking.
TÜV SÜD experts can assist manufacturers in the education process of classifying their products to equipment type, equipment category and other classification requirements found within the directive 94/9/EC, the relevant EN standards for electrical and non-electrical equipment, and the requirements coming from customers of manufacturers (e.g. zones) related to the Directive 1999/92/EC.
As a EU Competent Body, TÜV SÜD, and its partners are able to validate the products' design and issue the required type approval to annex III or a single approval to annex IX of the directive 94/9/EC.
TÜV SÜD also takes care of the (for category 1 and 2) required product and/or quality system conformity to annex IV, V, VI, or VII of the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC
