BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management System

The British Standards Institution has cancelled OHSAS 18001:1999. As a result, clients with compliance certificates should plan to upgrade to BS OHSAS 18001:2007 over the next 18 months. Released in July 2007, the revision allows this standard to be compatible with ISO 14001:2004. The section numbers have been revised to match ISO 14001.

The upgrade to the revised standard can be performed during any scheduled surveillance or recertification audit and should require no additional time to complete. TÜV SÜD America will discontinue performing any new certification audits to OHSAS 18001:1999 and conduct future certifications to BS OHSAS 18801:2007.

AS9100 Quality Management System for the Aerospace Industry

Scheduled to follow the upcoming release of ISO 9001:2008, the AS9100 standard will be updated from Rev. B to Rev. C. The new revision is anticipated to take effect in the in the first quarter of 2009. There will be a 30-month transition period for upgrading to the revised standard. Revision C includes the following changes:

• Incorporates ISO 9001:2008 changes.
• Expands scope to include land-based and sea-based systems for defense applications.
• Ensures alignment with IAQG strategy (on-time, on-quality performance).
• Adopts new requirements based on stakeholder needs.
• Improves existing requirements where stakeholders identified need for clarification.
